The property is situated in the foothills of the Manzano Mountains, a 40-mile long mountain range 25 miles to the south of Albuquerque. The mountain range includes a wilderness area, a national park and a state park as well as several peaks and canyons with hiking and mountain biking trails along with campgrounds and picnic areas.

Canyon del Rio and the surrounding area do have a somewhat oversized history. At one point, the Canyon del Rio subdivision was part of a big land swindle with the developer of the original subdivision accused of selling desert grazing land to out-of-state buyers for far more than they were worth.

Belen is one of the largest cities in Valencia County. It is geographically at the center of New Mexico and is a transportation hub for the state. There is a commuter railroad to Albuquerque and Santa Fe in Belen and several festivals throughout the year. The total population is around 7,000.
Property values in Belen and Valencia County are likely to see a boost due to the upcoming construction of a Facebook data center in Los Lunas (15 minutes outside of Belen). Los Lunas also recently won a $1.3 million federal grant to bring water infrastructure to the newly constructed BNSF Central New Mexico Rail Park. The construction of the rail park and its attendant infrastructure are projected to bring thousands of jobs to the area.
According to SmmitPost, the Manzano Mountains were “named for the apple trees found near the village of Manzano in the early 1800s, the area was inhabited by several different groups of Pueblo Indians including the Isleta Pueblo until the late 1870s….Within the Manzano Mountains is the Manzano Mountains Wilderness comprised of nearly 37,000 acres and 64 miles of trails, including the 22-mile long Crest Trail. Elevations range from 6,000 feet to over 10,000 at the summit of Manzano Peak.
